Reminder: New Shippers Export Declaration Form Now Required
As of 18 January 2004, exporters must file their Shippers’ Export Declarations on a new form or their shipments will be rejected. The new form asks for additional information about freight forwarders who may be handling the cargo. This information is Homeland Security-related, and ports monitored by US Customs and Border Protection have advised exporters that shipments without the additional information will be rejected. If you file your SED through the government’s Automated Export System (AES), you are ALREADY supplying the new information and you DO NOT need to take action. But if you file using paper forms, you should obtain the new form and begin using it immediately. You can download a copy by clicking on “New Shippers’ Export Declaration Form”, under “Resouces” on the right hand side of the home page of SBEA’s web site, or by going to www.census.gov/foreign-trade/regulations/forms/new-7525v.pdf, or by clicking on the link in SBEA’s Member Center.
