NEI Event Focuses on Small Biz
On Aug. 3, small- and mid-sized exporters gathered in Milwaukee for the latest stop of the National Export Initiative (NEI) Small Business Tour. Hosted by the Departments of Agriculture and Commerce, and the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR), the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and the Export-Import Bank of the U.S. (Ex-Im Bank), the event was designed to connect small- and mid-sized exporters with resources to help them grow their exporting overseas.
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, SBA Administrator Karen Mills, and Ex-Im Bank Chairman Fred Hochberg, among others, addressed the group by outlining the various assistance resources each agency has to offer. The NEI Small Business Tour was started earlier in 2011 as a means to help achieve President Barack Obama’s goal of doubling U.S. exports by the end of 2014.
In addition to hearing from the heads of various agencies, attendees of the Milwaukee event participated in trade resource panels on key the various federal resources that can help businesses begin exporting or expand their exports. The event also provided various resource guides to participants and provided the opportunity to hear from other local business owners who have successfully expanded their exporting operations.
